What the First 90 Days Look Like After You Sell to Us

3 min read

The weeks after a sale are when owners worry most. Will employees stay? Will customers notice a difference? What will the new owner change?

We've made the first 90 days as steady and predictable as we can. Every business is different, but here's how we typically approach the transition.

Before closing day

The transition starts before the sale closes. Together, we plan:

  • When and how to tell your employees
  • Which key customers and vendors to contact, and who will do it
  • Your role after closing and how much time you'll spend
  • Any systems, banking, or insurance changes that need to happen at closing

Week 1: Steady hands

Telling the team. You and our team announce the sale together. Employees hear it from you first, with a clear message: the company name stays, jobs stay, and day-to-day work continues as normal.

Answering questions. We make time for one-on-one conversations, especially with crew leaders and managers.

Business as usual. Trucks roll, jobs get done, and customers are served the same way they were the week before.

Days 1–30: Listen and learn

Our first priority is to understand the business, not to change it.

  • We spend time in the field and in the office
  • We learn from the people who do the work every day
  • We review how jobs are sold, scheduled, and delivered
  • We meet key customers and vendors alongside you

We make very few changes in the first month. The ones we do make are usually requested by your own team.

Days 31–60: Small improvements

Once we understand how things work, we look for practical improvements that make life easier for the team. That might mean:

  • Fixing a tool, truck, or piece of equipment that's been put off
  • Simplifying a billing or scheduling headache
  • Clarifying roles and responsibilities
  • Setting up clean monthly financial reporting

Days 61–90: Planning for growth

By the third month, we work with the leadership team on a plan for the year ahead. That may include hiring, training, new service lines, equipment investment, or growth opportunities. We reinvest in the business so it can keep improving long after the transition.

Your role during the transition

Most owners stay involved for a period after closing, but what that looks like is agreed up front. Some stay a few weeks. Others stay longer in an advisory role. We'll plan your transition around your goals.

What we don't do

  • We don't rebrand your company
  • We don't plan to put the business back on the market
  • We don't make big changes to your team or your customers' experience without good reason
